with vinyl days being logic’s final album under his (now ex) label, he made sure he left the label as he entered it, sounding hungry. raw production and the presence of Funkmaster Flex helps guide the listener through all 30 tracks on the mixtape-inspired album. Although you will find impeccable beats (fun fact: around 60% of the album was actually produced by Logic himself), you will also find undeniably smooth flows and features from various artists, ALL of which deliver from their first bar to the last. There’s also plenty of skits in the album to help make that 30 song track list feel a lot shorter. In all there’s actually only 20 intended songs, with 9 skits and one “Last call” from Logic himself on the final track titled “Sayonara”.
Where the album falls short is within the bars themselves. Don’t get me wrong Logic has some of his best bars in years in this project, however, considering the majority of his releases in recent times were intentionally rushed/thrown together to speed up getting out of his deal, it’s still not much of a leap in comparison to his jump from Under Pressure to T.I.T.S. with that in mind, Logic and his packed feature list still come with very raw lyrics and flows that nearly make up for the lack of impactful bars from the rapper in the spotlight.
All in all, Vinyl days was a very promising tease for Logics independent career that will follow the end of his contract with Def Jam. 4/5
